Ted Talk #1

I think that Sir Ken Robinson makes a very valid point when he talks about creativity in our education system.  Our world is making a big transition in this particular department, and I agree with his statement about how the standards for getting a job these days are not what they used to be.  Kids in school now are going to have to step it up a level if they want to succed in the world when they get older, and those requirements are not going to be an easy task to accomplish.  Mr. Robinson enhanced this overall message of importance by his way of presentation.  I think by using humor and examples from his life he really made a lasting impression on what he was trying to say. His presentation style was based on examples from his personal life that related to the overall picture of education.  I think this really helped portray his ideas well, because I think that since his stories were from his everyday life people could connect with that and understand the point he was trying to get across.  The thing that I think matters from this video is the comment made by Mr. Robinson about how adults these days are diminuishing kids' creativity in school.  I think that this is a very important statement, because like Sir Robinson mentioned in his speech, the world is slowely shifting from a analytical, fact-by-fact world, into one that requires an individual to bring something unique to the table, and that ability to do so may be the deciding factor on whether or not you can obtain a job in this new creative world.  Schools today are also undermining the creative programs they've put into their curriculums, and this is very sad because they don't realize that these are going to be essential programs for kids to express their creativity and individuality, and the key componants that might end up landing these youngsters a job in the future.
